Family winter fun in Anchorage, Alaska: Spotlight on the Alaska Zoo holiday lights

There are so many winter activities that are fun for the entire family in Anchorage, Alaska.  To see a list of activities, you can visit my community events calendar.

This season there is a new holiday activity:  The Alaska Zoo is putting on Zoo Lights, Thursday-Sunday nights through December 31st, then again February 18th-March 5th for Fur Rondy.  The times are from 5:00-8:00 PM, and admission is $6 per person, or $5 if you are a season pass holder.  One thing I like about the Alaska Zoo is that we have mostly Alaskan animals, and many of them are in the zoo because they were orphaned or injured.

We had the opportunity to go through and see this holiday winter wonderland last week.  It was very impressive.  Some of the lights were animated, there was music at one, and several animals (the wolverine, the tigers, and yaks just to name a few) were out and active.   I’d love to hear your thoughts…please comment if you’ve been to the exhibit or have comments.  Here are some photos I’d like to share:
