Have some spooky fun this Halloween!

As Halloween approaches you might be wondering what fun events are being offered. There is a lot to do in and around Anchorage, but I sometimes have a hard time finding out what’s going on until it’s too late to plan for it. This year I made a list, and I wanted to share it with you. Whether you’re looking for something family friendly or something that’s just for adults you can find out about it here. As I find more events I will keep adding them to the list.

Fright Nite Manor

The largest of Anchorage’s haunted houses, Fright Nite has been opening for Halloween scares since 1985. All ages are welcome to enter, but be prepared  for the fright of your lives!  This may not be appropriate for young children.

Fall Family Fun Festival

This October, join the Alaska Railroad for some Halloween family fun — a ride on the rails complete with costumes, crafting, tasty treats and more! With two Saturdays of departures at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., the Alaska Railroad Kid’s Halloween Train will travel 2.5 hours round-trip from Anchorage to Indian. Onboard the Halloween Train, passengers will enjoy monster-size fun, including entertainment from a magician, crafts, balloon animals, Halloween-themed Bingo, a raffle and coloring contest. Don’t miss this ghoulish good time!

Come walk the enchanted & haunted trails with your kids! The Enchanted Trail is a place where magical creatures meet brave warriors and high royalty and bring Halloween magic to life! The Haunted Trail is not for the faint of heart and is a place where ghosts, ghouls, and other surprises await!

Whether you choose to do one or both it will be a night of frights and delights with music, food trucks, and warming barrels. Costumes are highly encouraged!

There will also be a family beach ball party from 4-9PM

Back for the 5th year, this fun out-and-back course will allow you to see all the awesome costumes. There will be a team and individual costume contest with great prizes after the run. All activities are based on the 4th Avenue side of the Captain Cook. After you run, hit businesses downtown with the kids for Trick or Treat Street starting at 12:00 p.m. This year the race will be limited to 1100 participants so make sure to sign up early!

There is an entry fee.

4:30 p.m.
Experience Halloween music in the Thomas Planetarium. Classic and favorite Halloween tunes such as “The Monster Mash,” “Ghostbusters,” “Thriller” and more come to life with playful and spooky visuals. $6 plus museum admission.

Iñupiat Halloween with AKU-MATU
6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Join “AKU-MATU” (the rap name of Allison Warden) to celebrate Halloween like she does in her village. Everyone is invited to the all-inclusive, all-ages costume party beginning at 6 p.m. Costume contest begins at 7 where participants are encouraged to “perform” their costumes for the crowd to win the hearts of the judges. Music finishes out the night with an energetic performance by AKU-MATU and DJ WD4D. $10 adults/students ages 13 and older; $5 children 3 through 12; members receive a 10 percent discount.

Halloween Spooktacular: The Ooky Spooky Light Show
6:30, 7:15 and 8 p.m.
Kick off Halloween night with The Ooky Spooky Light Show in the Thomas Planetarium. Zoo Boo

Time to scare up a treat at the zoo on Halloween, Monday October 31st. It will be very spooktacular, with trick-or-treat stations and activities all over the zoo and a bonfire for warming toes. The entire zoo will be decorated in Halloween spirit, so bring your camera to photograph your trick-or-treaters. Buy a warm drink or meal in the Coffee Shop. The Gift Shop will be open for shopping and souvenirs. Stop by our Discovery Center to fight off the chill and learn about how the zoo began.

It’s all happening on Halloween at the Alaska Zoo, so join us and be a part of the most unique trick-or-treating experience in Anchorage. Be sure to come in costume!
