Welcome to Alaska’s wildlife!
Alaska has abundant wildlife, from the Bald Eagle to the brown bear, killer whale and moose. It’s not uncommon to see moose roaming the city of Anchorage, and in some parts of town black bears are a common site. Brown bears aren’t seen as often, but they also inhabit Anchorage.
In the city of Anchorage, you will find lots of moose, black & brown bears, lynx, fox, coyote, ermine, dall sheep, bald eagles, gyrfalcons, peregrine falcons, great horned owls, ducks, geese, and much more!
I’ve had merlin falcons nesting in my front yard, moose calves born in the neighborhood, and eagles nesting next door. The black bear in this photo was in my yard, just on the other side of the fence, and these moose are in my driveway.
Farther north you can find bison, musk ox, polar bears, caribou, and other interesting animals. Alaska is also home to many species of birds, and birdwatchers from around the world visit to see some of our unique feathered friends.
Let me know if you have any good Alaskan wildlife photos you’d like to share. I’d love to feature them on this page.
