What's a CRS?

The Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) is the highest Designation awarded to sales associates in the residential sales field. The CRS Designation recognizes professional accomplishments in both experience and education.

Since 1977 the Council of Residential Specialists has been conferring the CRS Designation on agents who meet its stringent requirements. Currently, there are more than 34,000 active CRS Designees, which is less than 4.5% of all real estate professionals.

CRS Agents Stand Out!

First the Facts:

  • CRS Designees earn an average of nearly four times as much as the average REALTOR®.  This means they are more experienced and know the market better than the average REALTOR®.
  • CRS Designees complete an average of 70 transactions per year, which compares to the average REALTOR® who completes an average of only 10 transactions annually.
  • Only 4 percent of all licensed REALTORS® are Certified Residential Specialists.

In order to earn the CRS designation, a real estate professional must first be a REALTOR®.  They have to take several 2-day courses ranging from business planning to technology to working with buyers and sellers, and pass rigorous tests associated with the courses.  In addition to this, they must have a certain number of transactions completed within a 2 year time frame, ensuring that only full-time, experienced professionals can earn this designation.
